The
Yonkers City Council is the legislative branch of Yonkers and uses a weak Mayor-Council government. The city elects six councilmen, each serving four year terms. Council seats 1, 3, 5 were last elected in 2007 including the Mayor who can be elected up to two times, and seats 2, 4, 6 were last elected in 2009 including an at-large member which is called the City Council president which has no term limits, also serves for four years at a time, and is a voting member. Regular meetings are held every Tuesday of the month, with extra meetings to be held other days, if planned.
