Yong Jun-hyung (Hangul: 용준형; Hanja: 龍俊亨; born December 19, 1989), also known as Poppin' Dragon or Joker, is a South Korean idol rapper, actor, singer, songwriter and dancer. He is a member and the main rapper of the Korean boy group Beast.
Biography
He was originally named as Yong Jae Soon (Hangul: 용재순) but had changed his name during his 6th grade.[1] He was born in Seoul, South Korea on December 19, 1989. He was once a member of the boyband "Xing" along with Kevin from U-KISS and was known as Poppin' Dragon when he was promoting with them. He featured in various singles as a rapper for various artists such as labelmates Hyuna's "Change"[2] and G.NA's "Kkeojyeo Julge Jar Sara" (꺼져 줄게 잘 살아, lit. I'll Back Off So You Can Live Better),[3] Young Jee's "Crazy, that's what love is",[4] Navi's "Go Again" and Wheesung's "Words That Freeze My Heart".[5]
Career
Beast
Beast (비스트, stylized as BEAST or B2ST) is a boy band from South Korea that consists of six members, under Cube Entertainment. Originally known as B2ST, an acronym for "Boys 2 Search the Top". However, their name was changed to BEAST (Boys of East Asia Standing Tall). They released their first mini-album Beast Is The B2ST on October 14, 2009, and made their first live performance on KBS's Music Bank 2 days later.
The group has released a total of 6 mini-albums: "Beast Is The B2ST", "Shock Of The New Era", "Mastermind", "Lights Go On Again", "My Story", and "Beautiful Night", and two Studio Album, "Fiction and Fact" and "Hard to Love, How to Love".
Solo activities
Yong Junhyung was featured in Lee Gi-kwang's music video "눈물을 닦고" ("Wiping the Tears") as a rapper with Doo Joon. Along with fellow BEAST member Yang Yo-seob, MC and comedian Lee Hyuk-jae, Moon Hee-joon (formerly of H.O.T.) and Kim Sook, they welcomed Japanese tourists for "Visit Seoul 2010" campaign, where Korean celebrities and Japanese tourists explored Seoul in MBC's "Star Guide Doshiraku" to raise awareness of Seoul's famous areas as well as its cuisine.[6]
Yong also featured in Hyuna's solo debut single "Change"[2] Yong along with 4minute were also featured in "Heard 'Em All" for Amerie's Asian version of the album In Love & War.[7] He also starred in MBC "High Kick Through the Roof" as a cameo in one of its episodes.[8] He was also involved in writing and performing the rap section for 4minute's album "Hit Your Heart", in the song "Who's Next?"[9]
Yong was featured rapping for G.NA's album title song "I'll Back Off So You Can Live Better" music video, with the intent of giving giving an "opposite vibe" from Doo Joon's appearance.[3] Currently, Yong is being featured in "Faddy Robot Foundation" together with 4minute's Hyuna, Outsider, Verbal Jint, Mighty Mouth's Ssangchu, Vasco and Zico; all profit from this album has been promised to be given out to charity.[10] In order to encourage the public participation in commemorating Seoul Summit Asia Bridge Contents (Representative Choi Jin) announced that the G20 summit held in Seoul created the campaign song "Let's Go" composed by Shinsadong Tiger, Lim Sanghyuk, Eddie, and Junhyung.[11]
In November 23, 2010, Young Jee released a single named "Crazy, That's What Love Is" featuring Junhyung, who wrote the rap lyrics himself.[4] On January 19, 2011, Navi released a single named "Go Again" featuring Junhyung rapping. On 14 March 2011 Wheesung released "Heart Aching Story" song, featuring Yong Junhyung.[5]
Yong also appeared in M&D's music video for "Close Your Mouth" with FT Island's Hongki & Jonghun, Supreme Team's Simon D and Miss A's Jia which was released on June 22, 2011.
He was also featured as a rapper for Hyuna's album "Bubble Pop!" in the song 'A Bitter Day", Kim Wan-sun's single "Be Quiet", and ALi's title song "Don't Act Countrified" from her album "SOUL-RI: A Town With Soul".
On February 3, 2012, he released a solo song titled, "너 없이 사는 것도 (Living Without You)". The song was written in the hip-hop style, and was co-produced by Junhyung and composer Kim Tae Joo. The song tells the story of a man who must overcome the pain of being betrayed by a woman he loved. The songs "이럴 줄 알았어 (I Knew It)" and "너 없이 사는 것도 (Living Without You)" are related to "Living Without You", being a prologue and a continuation respectively. Junhyung also produced Yang Yoseob's first EP "First Collage" which officially released on the 21st of November, 2012.[12]
Producer Brave Brothers created the project group ‘Absurd’, with rappers Junhyung B2ST, LE EXID and FeelDog Big Star. The promo image was released on February 21, 2013, and on February 17, 2013, Brave Brothers released Junhyung's version of the MV teaser. Asides from that, Junhyung produced and composed their recently out album "Hard to Love, How to Love" which is their second Studio album with Kim Tae-Joo alongside him. He also currently stars in a new South Korean TV Series called Monstar which airs every Friday starting on May 17, 2013, on Mnet music channel.
Personal Life
On June 28, 2011, Cube Entertainment announced that Junhyung was in a relationship with Goo Hara of KARA. DSP Media also announced; “They do have good feelings towards one another, but they’re still getting to know each other."
March 27, 2013 saw the end of their 2 year relationship, as Cube Entertainment and DSP Media announced that they "naturally drifted apart".
