Maj. Gen. Yoav Har-Even is the Head of the Operations Directorate of the Israel Defense Forces. Before receiving his current role, he was serving as the 319th Division Commander and as the Head of the GOC Army Headquarters.
Background
Maj. Gen. Har-Even started his military career in the IDF Artillery Corps. Between 1993 to 1995 he served as the 55th Battalion Commander in the Pillar of Fire Artillery Formation, and later commanded an Artillery Corps Officers School in the Shivta base.[1] In 1997, he was appointed as the Head of the Chief of Staff Office, and served under Shaul Mofaz and Amnon Lipkin-Shahak. In 2000 he received his Colonel ranks, and was appointed as the commander of the reserves battalion 973 Eged Artillery. In 2002, he was appointed as the Pillar of Fire Artillery Formation Commander. In 2005, he received his Brigadier General Ranks, and was appointed as the HaMapatz Armored Corps Formation Commander. He served in this capacity during the Second Lebanon War, as well as commanding on a Company and Battalion Commanders Training Course at the same time.
Promotions
In September 2008 he was appointed as the Head of Manpower Directorate Planning Division and as the Head of the GOC Army Headquarters. He served in those capacities until August 2011. He later served as a Project Manager in the General Staff Planning Directorate. In August 2012 he was promoted to Major General, and in September of that year, started his current role as the Head of Operations Directorate.
Family
Maj. Gen. Har-Even is married and a father of three. He has a bachelor's degree in Economics and Political Science, and a Masters Degree in Business from the Tel Aviv University. He is also the son of Avi Har-Even, who used to be the manager of the Israel Space Agency.
