Yelm High School is a comprehensive high school[1] in the city of Yelm, Washington, part of the Yelm Community Schools. Yelm is said to have received its mascot the "Yelm Tornado" after a small tornado blew through the small town in the early 20th century.

Yelm Community Schools was the first school district in Washington. However, it is officially "School District 2" in Washington because the Seattle School District had a larger student body population, so they were awarded the number one position.

Though the town of Yelm has a population of less than 7,000,[2] the district includes the surrounding rural area, and has the widest ranging school bus route in the state. The old high school has been torn down, and a new building opened in the Fall of 2006.[3]
