Yelabuzhsky District (Russian: Ела́бужский райо́н; Tatar Cyrillic: Алабуга районы, Latin: Alabuğa rayonı) is an administrative[1] and municipal[3] district (raion), one of the forty-three in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. It is located in the north of the republic. The area of the district is 1,362.1 square kilometers (525.9 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the town of Yelabuga[2] (which is not administratively a part of the district).[7] Population: 10,904 (2010 Census);[4] 10,785 (2002 Census);[8] 9,957 (1989 Census).[9]
Administrative and municipal status
Within the framework of administrative divisions, Yelabuzhsky District is one of the forty-three in the republic.[2] The town of Yelabuga serves as its administrative center, despite being incorporated separately as a town of republic significance[2]—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.[7]
As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Yelabuzhsky Municipal District, with the town of republic significance of Yelabuga being incorporated within it as Yelabuga Urban Settlement.[3]
