Education
Malik is a graduate of Saint Patrick's College, Karachi in 1954. Admiral Yastoor ul Haq Malik was commissioned in the Pakistan Navy in 1954 after training with British and Pakistani Navy. He is a graduate of PAF Staff College and National Defence College and holds M.Sc. in Defence and Strategic Studies.
Naval career
Malik was given the commissioned in the Pakistan Navy in 1958, and was given the inducted in the Navy in Surface Fleet in 1958. As Lieutenant, he served in the PNS Badr and participated in Operation Dwarka. Malik was also active in Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 wher he was serving at the rank of Lieutenant-Commander in Karachi. And, luckily avoided the Operation Trident commenced by the Indian Navy. Throughout his career, he served in the administrative branches of Pakistan Navy.
Staff Appointments
Before taking over as Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Y.H. Malik stayed as Chairman Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) from January 1, 1986 till August 11, 1988.[2] He also served as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff (VCNS) from 1984–1986 and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Personnel) from 1982-1984. He was promoted to Rear-Admiral and served as the Commander Pakistan Fleet (COMPAK) from 1977-1982.[3]
As Chief of Naval Staff, he is credit of commissioning the PNS Ahsan, a Naval base at Ormara, Balochistan, on 30 October 1991"PNS Ahsan"..
