The Yarowilca Province is the smallest of eleven provinces of the Huánuco Region in Peru. The capital of this province is the city of Chavinillo.

According to the 2007 census, Quechua was spoken by 61.0% of the population as their first language, while 38.7% spoke Spanish, 0.1% spoke Aymara, 0.0% spoke Asháninka and 0.0% spoke other indigenous languages.

Ethnic groups

The people in the province are mainly indigenous citizens of Quechua descent. Quechua is the language which the majority of the population (60.97%) learnt to speak in childhood, 38.74% of the residents started speaking using the Spanish language (2007 Peru Census).[1]
