Yalova University

Yalova University (Turkish: Yalova Üniversitesi) is a university in Turkey's Yalova Province.

Yalova University (YAU) has been founded under the Law no 5765 on May 22, 2008 and Prof. Dr. M. Niyazi Eruslu has been appointed as the first rector.

The Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and Vocational School of Higher Education of Yalova that had already been established and functioning as a constituent of Uludag University became a part of the recently founded university following the enactment of the law.

The Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of the University provides education at the undergraduate and provides postgraduate levels for students from foreign countries and from Turkey. The faculty offers academic programs that strive to teach administrative, entrepreneurial, and economical skills. It encourages providing, compiling, and publishing new sources of information in the field of economics and administrative sciences. Also the faculty contributes the business world through programs that aim at mastering efficiency and productivity. Newer departments include business administration (English), international relations (English), social service and labor economics - industrial relations have already been established.

The Faculty of Law has also been founded and attempts to open new departments have been initiated.

The faculty of engineering aims not only to impart contemporary engineering and scientific knowledge in the disciplines concerned, but also to inculcate creativity, research techniques, and self development. Bearing in mind the crucial roles of the engineer and the scientist in today's fast developing world, the emphasis is not just on information but also on formation.

The undergraduate curriculum provides a firm background in the basic sciences through courses in computer science, chemistry, energy systems and polymer fields. Polymer and energy systems engineering have been founded firstly in Turkey. To provide students with a broad intellectual spectrum, elective courses in humanities, social sciences and economics are also offered.

In addition to faculties, Yalova University has a vocational school of higher education. It has three different programs such as business and administrative programs, technical programs (computer technology and programming, climatization, landscaping, textile) and maritime programs (sea and seaport operating, deck and yacht – yacht operating programme).

Despite of being a new built university, national and international conferences, symposiums were (Ottoman Empire’s Establishment Date Symposium organized by Yalova - Bilkent Universities and International VII. Knowledge, Economy and Management Congress will be organized by Yalova - Istanbul Universities and 1st From The Past to The Present: Yalova Symposium was organized by Yalova University). In addition, the university organizes internal conferences and educational programs to encourage its academic, technical, and administrative staff.

To organise short and long term education programmes, such as certificate programmes, courses or seminars, Yalova University Life Long Training Center (YUSEM) has been founded. The main target is to respond to private sector’s, public and government sectors’ labour, employee and on the job training needs.

Yalova University – Industry Collaboration Center (YUSIM) is the second established center of the University. The framework of YUSIM is to construct the organization (Society / Industry, University, Research Environments) and strategy on University – Industry – Government. Designing and promoting the research and development plans that aim at utilization and industrialization of basic technologies held by YUSIM and becoming a base of International Cooperation will be first priorities of YUSIM.

Yalova University plans to realize the key activities in international area. These are: Cooperation with European Institutions and associations and policy making centers in transversal programmes, determining the international quality assurance standards of higher education and restructuring of the university in compliance with these standards and running projects for accreditation of the educational programmes offered by faculties and institutions. YAU plans to make multilateral projects, cooperation between universities, enterprises and modernization agenda for universities named BOLOGNA process. To do this, the University has already established an "EU and Foreign Relations Excellence Center" coordinated by one of the Vice Rectors.

The university has quickly completed the stages of initiation and it will continue its rapid growth with the new departments and vocational schools that are yet to be founded.
