Yael Joelle Lise Grobglas is a naturalized Israeli actress and former model. Yael started her acting career with a lead part in three seasons of the Israeli sci-fi TV series Ha'Yi (the Island 2007–09), which established her popularity among Israel's teenage audiences. She gained recognition for her debut film role in first Israeli horror film Rabies (Hebrew: כלבת, translit. Kavelet 2010),[1] which participated in the Tribeca Film Festival,[2] and a number of other venues internationally. Grobglas recently performed a number of lead and supporting roles in prime time Israeli television shows, including in the sitcom Ha-Shualim (the Foxes 2010), Ramzor (2011) and Hatzuya (2011). She is also known for her role as "The Girl" in the interactive video of We the Kings "Say You Like Me".[3] and as "Gabi" in the popular Israeli series "Tanuhi" (2012). In the United States, it was announced on 22 February 2013 that she was cast as the lead role of "America Singer" in The CW's pilot "The Selection".[4] The same year, she was cast for The CW's's Reign as Olivia, an Italian noblewoman who is an old flame of Prince Francis (Toby Regbo).[5]
Life and career
Grobglas was born in Paris, France, the daughter of Eva (Rosner) and Jean Pierre Grobglas. Her father is from France and her mother is from Austria.[6] Her family moved to Israel, where her talent and passion for performing arts became visible at an early age. As a teenager, Yael studied different styles of dance and performed in a professional dance group. She had a brief modeling career and participated in a number of runway shows and advertising campaigns. Having realized a greater interest in acting, Yael began taking acting classes. After participating in a few small projects, Yael was cast for the sci-fi TV series Ha'Yi ("The Island"), which made her popular among Israel's young audiences. Following two consecutive seasons of the show Yael enrolled in a full-time three-year acting program the Yoram Loewenstein Performing Arts Studio. She completed an additional season of Ha'Yi, and was cast for a number of major commercials during the course of her studies.
She gained recognition internationally for her role in the first Israeli horror film Rabies[7] (Hebrew: Kalevet, 2010), and in Israel for the sitcom Ha-Shualim ("The Foxes", 2010), comedy TV series Tanuchi ("Chill", 2012).
In 2013, Yael starred as America Singer in the CW's The Selection pilot, described as a cross between The Bachelor and The Hunger Games, which was ultimately not picked up to series. Her most recent roles include the lead in the forthcoming Israeli film "Glasses", and the recurring role of Olivia in the CW's series Reign.
