History

YachtWorld.com was established in March 1995. In 2000 it became part of boats.com, Inc. and in September 2004, Boats.com, Inc was purchased by Trader Publishing Company,[2] a joint business venture of Landmark Media Enterprises and Cox Enterprises. In September 2006, Landmark Media Enterprises and Cox Enterprises split the assets of Trader Publishing and YachtWorld became part of Dominion Marine Media, a subsidiary of Dominion Enterprises, LLC which was in turn a subsidiary of Landmark Media Enterprises. Today, Ian Atkins is Senior Vice-President and General Manager at Dominion Marine Media which includes the three leading marine brands of YachtWorld, Boat Trader and boats.com.[3]

International growth since 2000 has included web sites for Europe, Australia, and Russia. Customers in all countries can enquire online, phoning or visiting one of the subscribing yacht brokers directly.

In 2012, YachtWorld.com launched an iPad application.[4]

YachtWorld Market Index

Starting 2011, YachtWorld released the inaugural YachtWorld.com Market Index Report, providing a unique and comprehensive view of the marine industry in the United States and globally called the YachtWorld Market Index. This uses sold boat information by YachtWorld.com customers based on the number of yachts sold in each of the markets in which YachtWorld.com operates.[5] The YachtWorld Index is published both digitally and in print, and is aimed at journalists, the media and marine industry as part of the company's public relations activity.
