Xinshi District (Chinese: 新市區; pinyin: Xīnshì Qū; Wade–Giles: Hsin-shih; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Sin-chhī; literally "Newmarket") is a rural district in central Tainan City, Taiwan.

Name

Its historical name was Sinckan (新港, Xingang, literally 'Newport') and shares the same namesake as the Sinckan language and Sinckan Manuscripts.

Geography

Area: 49.51 km²

Economy

Part of Tainan Science Park, which was founded in 1996, lies within Xinshi.
