Xingning (Chinese Postal Map Romanisation: Hingning; simplified Chinese: 兴宁; traditional Chinese: 興寧; pinyin: Xīngníng) is a county-level city, under the jurisdiction of Meizhou, in Guangdong province of the People's Republic of China.

Names

Xingning used to be called Qichang (Chinese: 齐昌).

History

Xingning county was established in 331 CE.

Xingning was the capital of the 10th-century Southern Han Dynasty.

Long a county, Xingning was upgraded to County-level city within the municipal purview of Meizhou in 1991.

Situation

Xingning is located in eastern part of Guangdong province, to the north - ie inland and upland.

Xingning borders the counties of Pingyuan, Meixian, Fengshun and Wuhua, all in Meizhou; Longchuan in Heyuan Municipality; and Xunwu in Ganzhou Municipality, Jiangxi.

Administration

Xingning is the second largest city in east Guangdong, with an area of 2105 km2; and a population of 1.13 million. The city governs 29 towns/townships containing 475 villages.
