From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Xiaowei Zhuang (simplified Chinese: 庄小威; traditional Chinese: 莊小威) (b. 1972) is an American biophysicist, National Academy of Sciences member[1] and Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology and of Physics at Harvard University.[2][3][4]

Zhuang is an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.[5]

Early life and education

In 1987, Zhuang graduated from the preparation class for Gifted Young College (少年班) of USTC in Suzhou High School. She attended and graduated from University of Science and Technology of China with a B.S. in Physics and from University of California, Berkeley with a Ph.D. in Physics.

Career

She was a Chodorow Postdoctoral Fellow, at Stanford University from 1997 to 2001.[6]

Since forming her own lab at Harvard, she has led a team of researchers to develop super-resolution microscopy techniques,[7] identify the entry mechanisms of individual virus particles into cells,[8] and probe the nature of key nucleic acid–protein interactions using single-molecule techniques.
