Career highlights

Xavier Ellis (born 28 February 1988) is an Australian rules footballer playing for the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). Drafted by Hawthorn with 3rd overall pick in the 2005 AFL Draft, he is a medium sized midfielder or defender, and has shown great footy smarts.

Early Career

In 2006 Ellis focused on completing his year 12 (final year) studies and playing football for Melbourne Grammar School, where he was co-captain of the 1stXVIII. Unfortunately, his season was wrecked by injuries, but he managed to play several games for Hawthorn's VFL affiliate Box Hill Hawks, where he played well.

Senior Career

2007

Ellis had a few injury scares over the 2006/07 pre-season, especially concerning his hamstrings, although he has overcome these problems, and has made his senior debut against Fremantle as part of the NAB Cup practice matches. Xavier scored his first goal for the Hawks in round 4, 2007 against Geelong at Aurora Stadium, Launceston.

At the club's 2007 Best and Fairest presentation, Ellis was named Hawthorn's 'Best First Year Player'.

2008

Ellis made steady progress during the 2008 season, playing 23 matches and putting in a stellar performance in the Grand Final, where he helped his team defeat Geelong.

2009 -

In recent seasons, Ellis has been hampered by injury. He missed most of the 2012 season. In total Ellis played 5 games, including the 2012 grand final.

In 2013 Ellis was restricted to just 2 games after numerous injuries. On the 16th October, Ellis joined the West Coast Eagles as a free-agent signing.
