Xavier Chen (Chinese: 陳昌源/夏維耶, born 5 October 1983 in Sint-Agatha-Berchem) is a Belgian-born Taiwanese footballer who plays predominantly as a right back. He currently plays for Guizhou Renhe. He has previously played for Anderlecht (1991–2003), Kortrijk (2003–2007) and Mechelen (2007–2012) and captained the Belgium national under-19 football team.

Chen was born to a Taiwanese father and a French mother. His paternal grandfather is a former diplomat who still lives in Taiwan. He completed his Master's degree in Law at Université libre de Bruxelles, making him the only active European first division football player in the modern era to have obtained such a degree.

Chen's eligibility to play for Chinese Taipei national football team was discovered by the Chinese Taipei Football Association public relations director Chen Chia Ming in 2009 that time,[1] and Chen was invited to play for the national team. China Football Association had also made an attempt to recruit Chen three months after CTFA. On 24 May 2011, Chen elected to play for Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) instead of China.[2][3]

International career

Xavier Chen made his international debut against Malaysia on 3 July 2011 and scored the winning goal. This made it the first time in 10 years that Taiwan beat an opponent that was ranked in the FIFA top 150. The attendance of the game was a record breaking at 15,335, which was 10,000 more than average before.
