XHPOP-FM, better known as Radio Disney 99.3, is a radio station in Mexico City that broadcasts pop, rock music and dance music. The station is owned by Grupo ACIR and features programs from Radio Disney.

History

99.3 FM (previously known as Digital 99.3) used to broadcast pop music only (hence its call sign of POP), but two years after its start in 1977 the station began to broadcast different music genres like pop rock, reggaeton and dance music, in an attempt to make the station more popular with Mexican youths.

Reggaeton fever

In the year 2004 reggaeton was very popular in Mexico City and Digital 99 took advantage of the reggaeton fever to play reggaeton on the airwaves of Mexico City, which eventually made Digital 99 the station with the most listeners of the city.

Club Digital

Digital 99 mixes from 9:00 pm to 4:00 am reggaeton, hip hop, pop remixes and electronica to be played at parties. It is by now one of the most famous mix-shows of Mexico City.

Changes in 2013

Digital 99.3 finished broadcasting in August 2013, due to unknown reasons. Since that time, 99.3 FM has been broadcasting the same concept of music that used to be in Digital 99.3, without its usual presenters (except for the traffic info) and continuing with the generic name "99.3 FM". There are rumors about the concept that will replace Digital 99.3, with Radio Disney as the main replacement option.[2] This rumors were confirmed, when it was announced that from October 9, XHPOP-FM will broadcast a local Mexican version of Radio Disney Latin America.[3][4]
