X4D

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

X4D Motion EFX Cinema Seats is a technology developed by the American company MediaMotion Inc. that allows a motion-picture presentation to be augmented with environmental effects, such as motion, odors and humidity, outside the standard video and audio. It uses theater seats with tilt forward, backward and to the side in synchronization with onscreen motion, as well as air blasts, tactile effects and other technology.[1]

The technology was commercially introduced with the release of Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, where Cinemex opened its first X4D room in Santa Fe, Mexico City.[2] A similar, rival technology is 4DX by the South Korean company CJ 4DPLEX.
