Wright & Wright

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wright & Wright is an architectural firm, founded in 1994 by Sandy and Clare Wright MBE. The firm is based in Camden Town in London. The practice is strongly committed to sustainability and civic renewal. The interplay between public and private space is also a recurring theme in its work, much of which takes place on historic sites involving listed buildings where it is known for its sensitive contemporary designs. Its buildings are noted for their use of high quality traditional materials like oak, brick, stone, copper and bronze.[1]

Awards

The practice has won a number of awards, particularly for its work in education and in culture. Most recently, the Hull Truck Theatre was named the UK’s Best Public Building in the Brick Awards, 2009. It also won three RIBA White Rose Awards (Building of the Year, Sustainable Futures, Gold Award) and two Civic Trust Awards, including a special award for Inclusive Design and a RIBA Award.

Other awards in 2009 included the RIBA Award for the Taylor Library at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. The Women's Library was awarded Best UK Building and Best UK Public Building in 2002 (by the RIBAJ and Brick Awards, respectively) as well as the Liveable City Sustainability Award.
