WorkSafeBC
WorkSafeBC is the operating name of the Workers' Compensation Board of British Columbia, a statutory agency created by an act of the provincial legislature in 1917. WorkSafeBC is the exclusive workers' compensation insurer in British Columbia, Canada, covering more than 200,000 registered employers and 2.3 million workers (93.4% of the employed labour force of British Columbia).[1] In addition to administering claims for work-related injury, illness and disease, the agency is also responsible for prevention. The Workers Compensation Act[2] assigns the authority to make the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation of British Columbia[3] to WorkSafeBC, which also carries out workplace inspections and investigations of work-related injuries and fatalities.
