Winterslow

Winterslow is a village with a population of around 2,000 people, located about 6 miles North East of Salisbury, Wiltshire, United Kingdom, just off the A30 London Road. It has a primary school, a pre-school group, a village shop and post office, doctor's surgery, two pubs, 5 churches, a large modern village hall and two large recreation grounds. It is sited on the Roman road between Old Sarum and Winchester.

The name is thought to have its origins in an ancient term for burial mound.

Development Plans

In March 2011 a proposal for a major new housing development on land adjacent to Middleton Road was presented to the village by Primetower Properties.

Facilities

  • There is a local village school, Winterslow C of E Primary School, for children up to the age of 11.
  • There is a range of clubs and societies which meet in the village, for children, retired people, assorted sports clubs, art, drama, music, etc.
  • The village has a number of big events each year - summer fetes, a bonfire night, music and drama shows, art exhibitions and craft fairs.
  • Roche Court, East Winterslow, houses a major sculpture gallery.
  • The parish magazine (sold at the village shop) carries information about the range of activities in the village as well as the wide range of village businesses.
