Wintering Out
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wintering Out (1972) is a poetry collection by Seamus Heaney, who received the 1995 Nobel Prize in Literature.
In Northern Ireland, the phrase "to winter out" means "to see through and survive a crisis". Some critics claim this volume of poetry is representative of Heaney's desire to ride out The Troubles and hope for a brighter future in Northern Ireland. Heaney has been recorded reading this collection on the Seamus Heaney Collected Poems.
