Whitefield Metrolink station is a tram stop on the Bury Line of Greater Manchester's light rail Metrolink system. It is located in Whitefield, a part of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, England.

Formerly Whitefield railway station located along the Manchester Victoria to Bury heavy rail line, the station was converted and opened for Metrolink use on 6 April 1992. It lies in ticketing Zone A. Extensive park and ride facilities were built in 2005 along with a new terminal for the old bus interchange. The area around the station was redeveloped, and is centred around a new Morrisons supermarket.

Services

Whitefield is located on the Bury Line with trams towards Bury stopping every 6 minutes during the day, Mondays to Saturdays, every 12 minutes Monday to Saturday evenings and Sunday daytime and every 15 minutes Sunday evenings. Trams also head towards Ashton-under-Lyne, Manchester and Altrincham, with the Monday to Saturday daytime service running every 12 minutes each to Ashton-under-Lyne via Manchester Piccadilly or Altrincham, while evening and Sundays journeys run to Ashton-under-Lyne only with journeys to Altrincham requiring a change of trams at Piccadilly Gardens.[1]

Connecting bus routes

Whitefield is well served by buses, with some services stopping outside the station. First Greater Manchester's 98 and 135 services both stop on nearby Bury New Road and run between Bury and Manchester with the 98 running via Radcliffe and Prestwich and the 135 service, which runs frequently via Heaton Park and Cheetham Hill. Maytree Travel Monday-Saturday service 95 runs between Bury and Pendleton via Radcliffe, and Prestwich, while First's Sunday service to Pendleton starts from Whitefield, outside the tram stop. First service 93 serves Whitefield Interchange with buses running to Bury via Unsworth and Manchester via Prestwich. Maytree's 513 service stops nearby on Church Lane and runs to Bury via Radcliffe and to Bolton via Farnworth.[2]
