White Swan Hotel (simplified Chinese: 白天鵝宾馆; traditional Chinese: 白天鵝賓館; pinyin: báitiānébïnguǎn) is a 28-story luxury hotel in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. The hotel is located on the Shamian Island, overlooking the Pearl River and facing the White Swan Pool. The Jade River Restaurant, with its garden decor, is famed for its high-standard Cantonese cuisine.[citation needed]

Introduction

All of the hotel's 843 rooms and suites are equipped with full-size desks, color televisions, refrigerators, and individual climate controls.

History

Since opening on February 6, 1983, the Guangzhou White Swan Hotel has received over 40 heads of state and government, including Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, President Bush of the United States, and Chancellor Kohl of Germany.[1]

The hotel was accepted as a member of "The Leading Hotels of the World" on July 1, 1985, and appointed 5 stars by the Chinese Government in February 1990.[2]

Location

The Guangzhou White Swan Hotel is located on Shamian Island, overlooking the Pearl River and facing the White Swan Lake; it is reached by its own private 635-meter causeway.

Awards

The White Swan Hotel topped "China's 50 best hotels" in 1996. It was named "China's best well-known hotel' in 2008.[3]

Activity

Many American families who adopt their children from China stay at the White Swan while in Guangzhou for the visa paperwork. A children's story book[4] is based on this.[5]
