The Whirlpool Aero Car or Aero Car is a cable car located in Niagara Falls, Ontario that transports passengers over a section of the Niagara River referred to as the Niagara Whirlpool.
The system was designed by Spaniard Leonardo Torres Quevedo and upgraded since 1916 (1961, 1967 and 1984).[1]
The system uses one car that carries 35 standees over 1 kilometre trip.[2]
The car originally was open, but a roof has been added to all later designs.[3]
A four person rescue car is available (a smaller white car stored at opposite end in an indoor area), but not used in regular service.[4]
Although the trip is on the Canadian side, it crosses over US side part way into the Whirlpool (about 500 feet (150 m) from the starting point and for about 200 feet (61 m)), but passengers do not require passport clearance.[5]
The car operates from 10am to 5pm from second week of March to first week of November. It is closed during most of the winter due to ice and snow.
