West Village, Dallas
The West Village is a retail-residential development in the Cityplace and Uptown area of Dallas, Texas. The West Village is located at the northern end of Uptown along McKinney Avenue and is bordered by Lemmon Avenue, Cole Avenue, Haskell Drive and Central Expressway. West Village has approximately 170 residential units situated above 150,000 square feet (14,000 m2) of retail, restaurant and entertainment tenants.[1] Like the established urban neighborhoods around it, West Village is pet and pedestrian-friendly.
History
West Village, opened in 2001, was built on one of the last large undeveloped tracts that was cleared in the 1980s for the CityPlace West Tower. The original complex designed by architect David Schwarz is a mixed-use development managed by CWS Partners out of California and Gables Properties headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.[2] The name West Village has no relation to the neighborhood bearing the same name in New York City, but takes its name from being at the west portal of Cityplace Station and the western side of the Cityplace neighborhood. Over subsequent years the development has expanded east across Blackburn Street and south across McKinney Avenue. Recently, The Hanover Company constructed West Village Dallas luxury apartments that introduced additional living and mixed use retail to the area.
Shopping
West Village has a number of restaurants and small shops within a high-density retail/residential area.
Future development
The block bounded by McKinney Avenue on the west, Blackburn Street on the north, Cityplace Station on the east and CityPlace Boulevard West on the south contains the last vacant land for development. The driving range once operated by Hank Haney will someday be replaced by additional residential, retail and office buildings.
Transportation
West Village is one mile (1.6 km) north of Downtown Dallas. DART Bus routes run adjacent to the development on McKinney Avenue, Cole Avenue and Lemmon Avenue. The DART Red and Blue light rail lines stop at Cityplace Station, an underground station located at the east end of the development below Central Expressway. The McKinney Avenue Transit Authority's M-line streetcar travels from downtown Dallas to Cityplace Station and loops around the West Village.
The Katy Trail, a popular Dallas running and biking corridor, is near the development.
