West Atlantic was created in 2011 through the merger of two of Europe's independent cargo airlines, West Air Europe and Atlantic Airlines of the UK.

Now with its head office in Gothenburg Sweden the merged entity is also Europe's largest cargo airline[citation needed] and a provider of transport for the Mail and parcel industry.

West Atlantic have an annual turnover in excess of €100 million and employ some 450 staff to operate a fleet in excess of 50 aircraft. The airline specializes in the transport of mail, dangerous goods and general cargo.

Air Transport Services Group, Inc. announced on Dec 9, 2013 an agreement to acquire a 25 percent equity interest in West Atlantic.[1]
