Awards Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross

Werner Machold (29 July 1913 – 2 April 1968) was a German Luftwaffe ace and recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross during World War II. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. On 9 June 1941, Werner Machold received fire from a destroyer that he was attacking near Portland, his plane was forced to land and he was taken prisoner by British troops. He remained in captivity until the end of the war. He was credited with 32 aerial victories during the war, all of them against Western forces.
