Welbilt

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welbilt is a rock band from the Washington, D.C. area.

History

Welbilt was formed in early 2002 after members met at the bar TT Reynolds in Fairfax, Virginia. The band's eponymous debut EP (sometimes called the "The Blue Album") was recorded in a basement studio in Bristow. On the strength of that recording, radio station DC101 picked Welbilt to open the 2002 DC101 Chili Cook-Off on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC in May 2002. That July, the band won a national battle of the bands competition sponsored by the Hard Rock Cafe and Rolling Rock. Welbilt opened the Town Fair show in Latrobe, PA, signed a demo deal with Virgin Records, and recorded four songs with producer Andrew "Mudrock" Murdock (Godsmack, Avenged Sevenfold).

A Beautiful Mess

When Virgin passed on the demo, Welbilt continued recording its first full album, A Beautiful Mess, released in December 2003, which included the songs from the initial session and eight additional songs recorded with Mudrock in the summer of 2003.

Due to the Current State of Things

In a 2005 session sponsored by Budweiser True Music, Welbilt recorded the four-song "Due to the Current State of Things" EP with Scott Spelbring at Dragonfly East. The disc was mixed by Jeff Juliano and released in the Fall of 2005.

Current

Welbilt has shared the stage with Outkast, Puddle of Mudd, Nickelback, Godsmack, Soul Asylum, Howie Day, 311, Juliette and the Licks, Kings of Leon, and others.

Break up

The band played their last show with all four members on November 21, 2007 in Fairfax. Welbilt played a final "reunion" show together at the Celebrate Fairfax festival on June 8, 2008.
