The Wareham Train Station is located near the intersection of Main Street and Center Street in Wareham, Massachusetts. The current structure, which was built by the town of Wareham in 1985, consists of an open air shelter and a set of restrooms.[1] The station was served by Amtrak's Cape Codder from 1986 to 1996, and the Cape Cod & Hyannis Railroad from 1984 to 1988.

The CapeFLYER, which operates between South Station and Cape Cod, will stop in Wareham starting in May 2014.[2] A high-level platform may be constructed to make Wareham handicapped accessible like the other CapeFLYER stations, since it was built before the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act. (Stations from Middleborough/Lakeville north were built with full-length high level accessible platforms in the mid 1990s, while Buzzards Bay and Hyannis were retrofitted with mini-high platforms for the Cape Cod Central Railroad in 1999).

Current plans call for a 300-foot high-level boarding platform to be built northwest of the current station before the CapeFLYER service resumes in May.[3]

History

Former Wareham Station - ca. 1908

The previous station in Wareham, built by the New Haven Railroad in 1900,[1] was torn down in 1965 when the railroad discontinued its passenger rail service to Cape Cod.
