Wang Song (Chinese: 汪嵩; pinyin: Wāng Sōng; born 12 October 1983) is a Chinese footballer who currently plays for Hangzhou Greentown in the Chinese Super League.
Club career
Wang Song began his career playing for Sichuan Quanxing and would gradually establish himself as a regular within the team until the end of the 2005 league season when the club disbanded at the end of the season. This left Wang free to join second tier club Chengdu Blades where he was named as their captain. This responsibility seemed to get the best out of him and he became the top scorer in the 2007 promotion season with 17 goals in 24 games.[1] His form quickly caught the eye of Chinese national team and in November 2007, he became the first Chengdu Blades player to be called up for the Chinese national side. By the end of the 2008 league season, he had led Chengdu Blades to a thirteenth place within the league, however the following season saw the club relegated and he left to join Hangzhou Greentown for 3,000,000 yuan.[2]
International career
After his impressive 2007 league season for Chengdu Blades, where he was the division's top goalscorer, the Chinese national team coach Vladimir Petrović called Wang Song up to his squad where he gave him his international debut in a friendly against Lebanon on 20 January 2008 in a 0-0 draw.[3] Playing in several further friendlies, Wang was often playing as a left midfielder and was unable to make much of an impression within the team before he was dropped from the squad. After several years, Chinese manager Gao Hongbo brought him back into the team and included him into the squad that took part in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup.
