Wang Lin (Chinese: 王林; pinyin: Wáng Lín; born September 19, 1987) is a professional Chinese footballer currently playing for Hangzhou Greentown in the Chinese Super League where he plays as a defender.
Club career
Wang Lin would start his football career playing for his local club Sichuan Guancheng's youth team, however before he had the chance to graduate to the senior team the club went under and disbanded. Wang Lin was however considered a young prospect and top tier club Shanghai Liancheng were willing to buy him for 300,000 yuan before they promoted him to their senior squad and gave him his professional debut on April 23, 2006 in a league game against Xiamen Lanshi in a 1-1 draw.[1] As the 2006 league season went on Wang Lin would go on to establish himself as a squad regular within the season and play in thirteen league games, however before the start of the 2007 league season began Shanghai Liancheng would merge with Shanghai Shenhua with Shenhua keeping their name.[2]
At Shanghai Shenhua the merger saw the club have an exceptionally large squad and Wang Lin was loaned out to Liaoning Guangyuan halfway through the 2007 league season. A Chinese club playing in the Singapore S.League saw Wang Lin gain significant playing time, however when the season ended it was discovered that the club's manager and several players were taking bribes, Wang Lin was suspected and then found guilty of aiding in the match-fixing and had to remain in Singapore for a further four months.[3] After returning to China in 2008, Wang Lin would eventually return to football in the 2009 league season when he was loaned out to second tier club Shanghai Zhongbang halfway through the campaign and make his debut against Nanchang Hengyuan on August 10, 2009 in a 2-0 defeat.[4] By the end of the season Wang Lin would make ten further appearances and would remain at Shanghai Zhongbang for the full 2010 league campaign where he made sixteen appearances throughout the following season.
