Walter Stonor

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sir Walter Stonor (died 1550) was an Oxfordshire knight and a Lieutenant of the Tower of London in the 16th century.[1] He had at least three probable brothers, John, Edmund and Robert.[2] He was knighted after the Battle of Flodden in 1513.[3] He died in 1550 with no male heir.[4]

Walter's corresponded with his daughter, Elizabeth, for several decades after her marriages to first Sir William Compton, then Sir Walter Walshe and finally Sir Philip Hoby, and unusually for the period these letters have survived, giving an indication of their relationship over the years.[5]
