Walter Moberly Elementary School is a public elementary school in Vancouver, British Columbia and part of School District 39 Vancouver. With an enrollment of around 750 students from Kindergarten through Grade 7, approximately 80% of students are Indo-Canadian. 69% of students have English as a second language, while 93% of students live in a home where English is not the home language.[3]

History

Walter Moberly Elementary School was first constructed in 1912 at its current site at Ross Street and East 59th Avenue. The school was named for Walter Moberly, an engineer and surveyor.

In 1945, the school burned down. It was rebuilt the following year in 1946. An addition of a second gymnasium, 10 classrooms and offices were added to the west side of Moberly in 1999.

Discipline system

Moberly has a system of discipline. Students are handed out 'blue cards' every time they do something good without being asked. After receiving blue cards they enter them into a raffle, and once every week a bunch of names are called and some get rewarded. However, if students are caught doing something bad, they receive what is called a 'white card'. The consequences of a 'white card' may vary depending on what was done.
