Wahluke School District

thumbnail Wahluke School District is a public school district in rural Grant County, Washington, USA, serving the communities of Mattawa, Beverly, Schwana, and Desert Aire.

As of October 2008, the district has an enrollment of 1,992 students and 112 classroom teachers.

One, 60-acre (240,000 m2) campus houses all district facilities. Its district headquarters are located in Mattawa [1]

Student Demographics

As of October 2008,[2] 1,992 students were enrolled in district. The ethnic breakdown is: 5.8% White, 93.5% Hispanic, and 0.6% American Indian/Alaskan Native.

90+% of students qualify for free or reduced-price meals. 8.6% are enrolled in special education. 58.1% are transitional bilingual. 26.3% are migrant students.

Programs and Opportunities

Some of programs offered by the district include:[3] agricultural education opportunities, STREAM (Science-Technology-Robotics-Engineering-Art-Math) with fully equipped Woodworking, Welding, and Metal Fabrication Laboratories, over 25 athletic and extra-curricular activities, and extended day programs. The district has also established Bilingual/ESL programs as the majority of students are English language learners.
