Wachseldorn is a municipality in the administrative district of Thun in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Wachseldorn has an area of 3.5 km2 (1.4 sq mi). Of this area, 71.2% is used for agricultural purposes, while 23.7% is forested. The rest of the land, (5.1%) is settled.[3]

Demographics

Wachseldorn has a population (as of 31 December 2012) of 228.[1] As of 2007, 1.3% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has decreased at a rate of -15.5%. All of the population (as of 2000) speaks German.

In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 78.8% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the CSP (6.5%), the SPS (4.5%) and the FDP (4.3%).

The age distribution of the population (as of 2000) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 25.3% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 56.9% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 17.8%. In Wachseldorn about 54.2% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).

Wachseldorn has an unemployment rate of 0.49%. As of 2005, there were 73 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 28 businesses involved in this sector. 1 person is employed in the secondary sector and there is 1 business in this sector. 27 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 5 businesses in this sector.[3]
