The station went on the air as WJMK-FM on 1964. WJMK-FM was one of the first FM stations to broadcast in stereo. The first studios were located in the owner's garage on Walton Drive in Plainfield, Indiana. The calls WJMK stood for the owner's family, James, Mabel, and Karen Barlow.[4] The music was easy listening with a lot of big band mixed with local news and weather. Local football and basketball for the towns of Plainfield, Danville, Brownsburg, Avon, and Mooresville made this a true local radio station. Many local broadcasters got their first on-air job with the station, with the likes of Paul Page, Gary Havens, and Steve Miller.
On September 24, 1980, the station changed its call sign to WART-FM. On December 15, 1980 it changed to WXIR. On August 19, 2003 it changed to WRDZ-FM.[5]
