WJZF-LP (97.1 FM) is a radio station licensed to Standish, Maine, USA. The station is currently owned by Standish Citizens Educational Organization.[1][2] The station is heard on Public-access television cable TV channels in Gorham and Saco.
History
Standish Citizens Educational Organization became an organization in May 2002 and applied for a construction permit for a new LPFM station. The station was granted the WJZF-LP on 2003-12-29,[3]and the station went on the air January 20, 2005, primarily focusing on smooth jazz, however having specialty shows including oldies, blues, old time radio and christian music. WJZF is now broadcasting a variety of programs that are not heard on other radio stations.WJZF has become one of those rare radio stations that truly offer alternative broadcasting to the public. Everything from Bluegrass (Red Bud Ramble) to Blues (True Blues Revue) to Country (Country Barn) to one of the most interesting programs found anywhere on radio, "Mystery Train" which features rare and unreleased tracks from all genres of music,from the Beatles to Dylan to things you'll hear nowhere else on the dial. WJZF also broadcasts worldwide on www.wjzf.org and draws listeners from all corners of the globe.
WJZF was the former call sign of a smooth jazz radio station in the Atlanta, Georgia area now known as WALR-FM. This station identified as "Jazz Flavors 104.1." The current WJZF-LP also bills its smooth jazz programming as "Smooth Jazz Flavors."
