WHZN is a Modern Worship formatted broadcast radio station licensed in New Whiteland, Indiana United States, serving the metropolitan Indianapolis area and surrounding communities. WHZN is owned and operated by Olivet Nazarene University.

History

The station launched under Program Test Authority from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on June 15, 2009, with a Contemporary Christian Modern Worship radio format. The station's license was granted on October 9, 2009.[1] WHZN was originally a ministry of Horizon Christian Fellowship of Indianapolis and was known locally by its branding, "88.3 The Walk" or just "The Walk",[2] WHZN was sold to Olivet Nazarene University in 2011.[3]

Under the ownership of Horizon Christian Fellowship of Indianapolis, their goal was to design a radio format that was consistent with the quality of a full service Adult Contemporary station but with an emphasis on contemporary worship music and short form bible teaching messages. More than 80 per cent of the format's music is contemporary worship music with the remainder of the music meeting an "encouraging Christian message" criterion. Short form bible teaching programs, called "vignettes" air in each quarter hour and are produced to match station imaging.[4]

As "The Walk", WHZN's Modern Worship format proved successful in a relatively short period of time. WHZN became a Billboard Magazine reporting station on September 8, 2009, for their Hot Christian A/C chart. The station has been monitored by Nielsen BDS since March 31, 2010.
