Vodafone Iceland is an Icelandic telecommunications company that offers all the core aspects of telecommunications to individuals, businesses, institutions and public bodies in Iceland. The company has built up a dynamic infrastructure in Iceland and provides service to customers worldwide.
The company was established in 2003 when three smaller telecommunications companies (Tal, Íslandssími and Halló) merged into one. The companies forged a path for real competition in the telecommunication market after years and years of state monopoly. Vodafone Iceland also purchased the Internet service provider Margmiðlun, data transmission company Lína.Net and P/K Kall Telecommunications company in the Faroe Islands, now operating under a new name, Vodafone Faroe Islands.
Vodafone Iceland bases its service and product selection on its co-operation with Vodafone Group Plc. More than 400 million customers use the Vodafone Group’s services. Vodafone Iceland became the first corporate entity to be licenced to operate fully under the label of Vodafone, without being the property of Vodafone Group. The company’s international connection brings to Iceland increased product selection, guarantees better services while traveling overseas and leads to affordable prices.
Vodafone Iceland’s headquarters are at Skútuvogur 2, 104 Reykjavík. Vodafone runs three retail outlets in the metropolitan area of Reykjavík city, with one at the Kringlan and Smáralind shopping centres and another at Skútuvogur 2. A fourth outlet is located at Glerártorg shopping centre in Akureyri, North Iceland. Approximately 380 individuals are employed at Vodafone Iceland. The State Reg. No. is 470905-1740.
