Vishal Kumar Ravindra (born 30 July 1992) is an Indian professional footballer who plays as a defender for Bengaluru FC in the I-League.
Career
Youth
Born in Bangalore, Karnataka, Kumar started to focus on football in 2005.[3] He was soon spotted by Sports Authority of India coach Mary Victoria who invited Kumar to a beginners camp in Austin Town.[3] Victoria then introduced Kumar to Dada Peer, the main manager of the Sports School at Vidyanagar, who offered Kumar a trial in which he failed.[3] However, due to Peer's influence, Kumar was admitted into the school.[3]
Kumar then attended a trial for the Karnataka U16 side where he did not make the team, however, he did make it the next year.[3]
Pailan Arrows
After playing a few matches for HAL Bangalore in the I-League 2nd Division, Kumar was selected to join the newly created Pailan Arrows (then AIFF XI) of the I-League, a team made up of entirely U21 players.[3] On 3 December 2010, Kumar made his I-League debut against Chirag United, which was also the AIFF XI's first ever I-League match as well, at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata in which he started as the AIFF XI went down 2–1.[4]
After his first season, Kumar had played in 17 league matches.[3]
Bengaluru FC
After spending three seasons with the Pailan Arrows, Kumar signed with new direct-entry side Bengaluru FC for the 2013–14 season.[5] He made his debut for the side in the clubs I-League opener against Mohun Bagan A.C. on 22 September 2013 in which he started and played the full match as Bengaluru drew the match 1–1.[6]
International
Kumar had represented India at the under-16, under-19, and under-23 levels.[1][3]
