Virgilio Maroso

Virgilio Maroso (26 June 1925 - 4 May 1949) was an Italian football player, who played for Torino FC and died in the Superga air disaster together with the whole Grande Torino team.
Biography
Maroso was born in Marostica. He was the brother of Pietro Maroso, also a Serie A player and the current president of A.S. Varese.
He played as a defender, debuting for Torino in 1945 after a period in loan at Alessandria (1944).
With Torino, Maroso played 103 times and won four consecutive Serie A scudetti, until dying with most of the team in the Superga air disaster near Turin, in May 1949. He was capped seven times for the Italian national team, scoring one goal.
The football stadium in Marostica is dedicated to him.
