Vinland sagas
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Vinland Sagas are two Icelandic documents; The Saga of the Greenlanders (Grænlendinga Saga) and The Saga of Eric the Red, (Eiríks Saga Rauða).
The Vinland Sagas represent the most complete information we have about the Norse exploration of the Americas. The sagas were not written until at least 200 years after the original voyages and their accounts of them are somewhat contradictory. However historians commonly believe these sources contain substantial evidence of Viking exploration of North America. Their veracity was proved by the discovery and excavation of a Viking settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland, Canada.
