Vijapur is a city and a municipality in Mehsana district in the Indian state of Gujarat and including village of ladol,mahudi and kukarwada.

Geography

Vijapur is located at 23°34′N 72°45′E / 23.57°N 72.75°E / 23.57; 72.75.[1] It has an average elevation of 116 metres (380 feet).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Vijapur had a population of 60,805. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Vijapur has an average literacy rate of 68%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 75%, and female literacy is 60%. In Vijapur, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Vijapur is one of the fasted developing cities of Gujarat with very high industrialisation & education facilities.

Vijapur Jain temple complex

Vijapur is a birthplace of Jain monk Buddhisagar Suri who established Mahudi Jain temple of Gantakarna Mahavir. He was cremated in Vijapur after his death. A Jain temple and a shrine dedicated to him was established later.

There is a Jain temple dedicated to Vasupujya swami at Aglod. There is a shrine dedicated to Manibhadra Vir, the protector deity in Jainism.
