Victor Costello (born 23 October 1970) is a retired Irish rugby union player and Olympic shot-putter.[1]

Athletics career

Costello is a former five-time Irish shot put champion[2] and represented Ireland at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.[3]

Rugby career

Playing senior rugby throughout the 1990s until his retirement in 2005,[3] Costello's rugby career with Leinster and Ireland straddled the amateur and professional eras. He also had spells with Connacht and London Irish.[4]

Media work

Costello provides analysis on field events in major athletics championships including the 2012 London Olympics for RTÉ Sport.[5][6] He is also a Rugby pundit on RTÉ television and radio.[7]

Personal life

Costello's sister Suzanne is an Irish international hockey player, sprinter and is director of the Samaritans (Charity) in the Republic of Ireland.[8] His father Paddy ('Butch') was also an Irish International rugby player, playing second row.[4]

He works as a pilot for Ryan Air.[9] and is a committee member of the rugby sevens club, Shamrock Warriors.[10]
