Ventura County Fair

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ventura County Fair is an annual event held each August in Ventura, California, USA at Seaside Park, commonly called the Ventura County Fairgrounds.

History

The first Ventura County Fair was held in 1874. Prior to being held at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, it was held at Pierpont Bluffs and Hueneme, with the fair initially being held in October, rather than August. In the early years, the main attraction was horse racing.

In the 1970s, there was a plan to move the fair to Camarillo, California, however that did not occur.[1]

The fair attracts more than 300,000 visitors each year.[2]

Musical entertainment

Many notable artists and bands have played at the fair, including The Beach Boys, Jimi Hendrix and Smokey Robinson.
