Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga Rao (July 4, 1947 December 26, 1988) was an Indian National Congress politician in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.

Personal life

He was born in Katuru near Vuyyuru, located in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh on July 4, 1947. Ranga had four elder brothers: Vangaveeti Koteswara Rao, Vangaveeti Venkata Narayana Rao, Vangaveeti Sobhana Chalapathi Rao [Ex.M.L.A.,Vuyyuru] and Vangaveeti Radha Krishna. Ranga was married to Chennupati Ratna Kumari. He was the god of kapu community. Ranga always has been on the side of poor people. They have a son Radha Krishna, named after Ranga's brother Late. Vangaveeti Radha Krishna and one daughter Asha. Radha Krishna entered politics after his father's death and has been a congress party MLA from 2004-09, later he shifted to Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) and then to YSR Congress Party on 28th April 2012.

Public life

When Ranga's brother Vangaveeti Radha Krishna was killed by Communists, Vangaveeti Ranga took over the charge of his brother's legacy. He became more popular in his own community, Kapu (caste). He became a demi-god to the Kapu (Naidus) community. He was an Indian National Congress politician. During his entire political career he had to go through many up and downs. Apart from freedom fighters, he was the only one who won in local elections being prisoned. It so happened that people of whole Andhra use to take his name and threaten and do business after his death. Ranga supported all kinds of people irrespective of caste and religion. To say the least state congress lost one of its most dynamic leaders in the form of VMR. Until his last breath he fought for the people and served them in many ways throughout his life.
