Vanessa Grout

Vanessa Grout is an American real estate entrepreneur, investor and journalist. She was CEO of South Florida real estate brokerage Douglas Elliman from 2010-2013 during which time she restructured and expanded the company throughout South Florida.[1]

She is currently an executive of New Valley LLC, an investment company owned by Vector Group Ltd. (NYSE: VGR), and is also a licensed attorney and real estate broker.[2] She is a regular contributor to Forbes on the topics of real estate and business. [3]

Douglas Elliman

Vanessa Grout was appointed CEO of Douglas Elliman Florida by Howard Lorber, Chairman of Douglas Elliman Realty and CEO of Vector Group Ltd. Through its real estate arm, New Valley LLC, Vector Group owns Douglas Elliman Realty, the largest residential brokerage company in New York.[4] In 2012 the company earned $378.2 million in revenue, and $12.4 billion in sales volume. [5] The company has nine offices throughout South Florida.[6] [7]

Philanthropy

Vanessa Grout is a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), a Founder of the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, and a member of the Board of Trustees for the Miami Science Museum.[8]

Achievements

Vanessa Grout was honored by the Urban Land Institute as the 2013 Young Leader of the Year.[9] She was named one of the South Florida Business Journal’s 40 Under 40. [10]

Early life

Grout was born in Miami, Florida, the daughter of Melanie and Jack Grout, Jr. She attended The Benjamin School, an independent college preparatory school in North Palm Beach, Florida.[11] She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Miami and an MBA in Finance from NYU Stern School of Business.  While a law student in Miami, she clerked for attorney Roy Black, who defended William Kennedy Smith.[12]
