Valerie Geller

Valerie Geller is an International Broadcast Consultant, Author, public speaker, communications coach and trainer working throughout the world to help broadcasters build their audiences. In 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009. 2010, 2011 and 2012 the trade magazine Radio Ink listed her as one of the "50 Most Influential Women in Radio".[1] In 2011 Radio Ink named her among the top broadcast consultants in the USA. In 2010, Geller was named as recipient of the Conclave's highest honor: The Rockwell Award for lifetime achievement in radio.[2][3]

Valerie Geller works with broadcast outlets that emphasize news and talk. She also wrote a weekly column for www.radio-info.com, "News/Talk Edge." She has guest lectured at various universities and colleges on broadcasting and news including the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University in New York City. (2000, 2001, 2002) and the film school at New York University and the Swedish Royal Technical Institute (Media Studies) in Stockholm. In November 2013 Geller was a guest lecturer for the journalism school at the university of Gothenburg in Sweden.

Geller has authored several books on radio broadcasting and communications for news/talk information and personality broadcasters for radio, TV and the internet, including Creating Powerful Radio – A Communicator's Handbook (ISBN 0-9647930-8) M Street Publications, 1994; The Powerful Radio Workbook – The Prep, Performance & Post Production Planning (M street Publications 2000) ISBN 0-9647930-5-9; and Creating Powerful Radio-Getting, Keeping & Growing Audiences from Focal Press 2007 (ISBN 0-9782405-1928-9). Which has been translated into Hungarian, Bulgarian And Albanian language editions. There is also an instructor manual for both "Creating Powerful Radio" and "Beyond Powerful Radio" written by Melissa McConnell Wilson and Linwood Hagin for Creating Powerful Radio (2007). Her fourth book: Beyond Powerful Radio – A Communicator's Guide to the Internet Age from Focal Press was published in April 2011. The French translated edition of "Beyond Powerful Radio" will be published from HP Editions in France in February 2014.

Valerie Geller has worked with some of top personalities, programmers and stations working in news and talk radio throughout the world, including the BBC, ABC in Australia, CBS in the USA and more... For both commercial and public radio and television throughout the world and was program director of WABC radio AM 770 in New York (1990).

International influence

Geller has presented before the egta at the European Union, The NAB, RTDNA, The Conclave, European Radio Days, Scandinavian Radio Days, MedienForum in Cologne, and many other conferences. Her work consulting stations to improve their content, develop their on air talent and grow their audiences in 31 countries includes Australia, the UK, Africa, Singapore, Denmark, Sweden, Canada, the USA and more, develop their air talent and staff for both public and commercial radio news and news/talk stations.

Other Radio Work

Geller's on-air career in radio includes working as a talk show host, anchor and reporter for Los Angeles FMs KOST (1988–1990) and KRTH 101 FM, as well as then Pulitzer owned KTAR (AM) Phoenix, Arizona and KOA-AM/Denver in the early 1980s. Ms. Geller was one of the principals who successfully helped move KFI-AM in 1988 in Los Angeles from a music format to Talk. In 1990, she moved to the job of program director of legendary WABC (AM) Talkradio in New York City.

As an international broadcast consultant, Geller has worked with Reuters and the Associated Press, and served on the broadcast board of directors of the Associated Press in 1986, elected to this position while news director at K101 radio in San Francisco. Geller has worked with [Univision Radio], the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), and The South African Broadcasting Corporation and Nation Radio in Nairobi, Kenya. (2002). She has worked in a consulting or advisory capacity on several documentary films, including "Daisy Bates: the First Lady of Little Rock" and "Water Pressures" www.waterpressures.org

Creating Powerful Radio
