Vaimõisa (German: Waddemois) is a village in Märjamaa Parish, Rapla County in western Estonia.
Vaimõisa manor
Vaimõisa estate has existed since at least 1494,[1] but the first manor was probably destroyed during the Livonian War.[2] This first estate was established by a bailiff serving the Bishopric of Ösel-Wiek.[2] Throughout history, the estate has belonged to several Baltic German families, including Farensbach, von Flemming, von Nascakin, von Wetter-Rosenthal, von Baranoff and von Wilcken.[1] Among the more illustrious owners, Gustave Rosenthal (soldier in the American Revolution) and general H. Rautsmann (teacher to Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim) can be mentioned.[3]
Construction of the presently visible main building started in 1792 and finished in 1818. It is a comparatively well-preserved manor, with interior details such as original doors, stucco decoration, fireplaces and parquet floors surviving to this day.[2]
Apart from the main building, the manor park and some annexes, including a Gothic Revival smithy, remain.[1]
