Unterlangenegg is a municipality in the administrative district of Thun in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Unterlangenegg has an area of 6.8 km2 (2.6 sq mi). Of this area, 71.8% is used for agricultural purposes, while 18.2% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 8.4% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (1.6%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).[3]

Demographics

Unterlangenegg has a population (as of 31 December 2012) of 927.[1] As of 2007, 1.0% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has decreased at a rate of -8.9%. Most of the population (as of 2000) speaks German (98.0%), with Serbo-Croatian being second most common ( 0.5%) and Arabic being third ( 0.4%).

In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 62% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (9.8%), the local small left-wing parties (8.8%) and the Green Party (8.2%).

The age distribution of the population (as of 2000) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 26.6% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 59.2% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 14.1%. In Unterlangenegg about 69.7% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).

Unterlangenegg has an unemployment rate of 1.39%. As of 2005, there were 166 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 52 businesses involved in this sector. 66 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 18 businesses in this sector. 130 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 30 businesses in this sector.[3]
